Die Humanistische Union, vereinigt mit der Gustav Heinemann-Initiative trauert um Mani Stenner. Er verstarb am 17. Juli 2014 im Alter von 60 Jahren. Mani Stenner war 26 Jahre lang Geschäftsführer des „Netzwerk Friedenskooperative“. Vom Bonner Büro aus organisierten Mani und seine Mitstreiter die großen Friedensdemonstrationen der 80er Jahre gegen die Stationierung der Mittelstrecken-Raketen der USA und der Sowjetunion sowie den Protest gegen die Golfkriege.

Unter schwierigen politischen Rahmenbedingungen hat Mani Stenner es aber auch all die Jahre danach verstanden, in der Öffentlichkeit für die Inhalte der Friedensbewegung zu werben und die Strukturen der Friedensarbeit zu erhalten bzw. neu auszurichten.
Als Pazifist klar, eindeutig und entschlossen immer wieder für Frieden und Gerechtigkeit eintretend, konnte Mani Stenner insbesondere durch seine Fähigkeit, zuzuhören und auf seine Gesprächs-Partner_innen einzugehen, Vertrauen schaffen. Mit ihm in gemeinsamen Aktionen zu handeln und oftmals im Vorfeld auch strittig zu verhandeln, war stets Beleg dafür, wie sehr kluge und kenntnisreiche Kommunikation Brücken bauen kann zu unterschiedlichsten Gruppen der Friedensbewegung bzw. der Zivilgesellschaft.<\/p>\n
Dies zeigte sich auch bei der Trauerfeier, auf der der Vertreter der Bonner Polizei Mani Stenner würdigte als einen, der Freiheit und Verantwortung gelebt habe und damit ein echter Verfassungsschützer gewesen sei. Die Wertschätzung der Bonner Polizei für Mani Stenner beruhte auf dem gemeinsam von Mani Stenner und der Bonner Polizei vor Jahren gegründeten „Bonner Forum BürgerInnen und Polizei“. Durch konsequentes Eintreten für Gewaltfreiheit hat Mani Stenner im Bündnis mit der Polizei in Bonn aber auch anderswo für das friedliche Gelingen mancher spannungsgeladener Aktionen und Demonstrationen sorgen können. Was die einen akademisch Deeskalationsstrategie nannten, war für Mani Stenner eine Frage der Demonstrationskultur. Für Hass, Rassismus und Antisemitismus war da kein Platz.<\/p>\n
Die Humanistische Union ist stolz darauf, Mani Stenner und 28 andere Friedensfreunde, die 1999 zur Verweigerung im Kosovo-Krieg aufgerufen hatten, zum Trägerkreis des Fritz-Bauer-Preises (2001) zählen zu dürfen. Er und seine Mitstreiter standen damit ganz in der Tradition des politisch-ethischen Vermächtnisses von Fritz Bauer, der gemahnt hatte, „dass es in unserem Leben eine Grenze gibt, wo wir nicht mehr mitmachen dürfen“.<\/p>\n
Mani Stenner wird uns Ansporn sein, weiter und in immer neuen Versuchen für Frieden und Gerechtigkeit einzutreten – wenn möglich, auch auf die ihn so sehr kennzeichnende Art und Weise.
