Der Fritz-Bauer-Preis der Humanistischen Union wird derzeit aller zwei Jahre vergeben. Mit ihm zeichnet die Bürgerrechtsorganisation besondere Verdienste um die Demokratisierung, Liberalisierung und Humanisierung der Rechtsordnung in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland aus. Rosemarie Will begründete in ihrer Eröffnungsrede die diesjährige Vergabeentscheidung: Wie kaum ein anderer habe Perels mit seiner Arbeit die Selbwahrnehmung der Deutschen Justiz in der Nachkriegszeit nachhaltig geprägt. Er zähle zu jenem kleinen Kreis von Wissenschaftlern, die sich um die kritische Selbsterkenntnis der Justiz bemüht haben.
